How do I describe him? Of course he is smart, sweet, sincere, and kind (Duh). But one of my favorite things about him is his quirkiness. This Q-factor makes him endearing and lovable. And sometimes, this allows him to get away with saying really strange and inappropriate things.
Exhibit A: After 2 weeks of dating, he mentioned that I had cankles. But he said it with such innocence. Almost like the time a 4 year old asked me if there was a baby in my tummy when there was most certainly not. How could I get mad?
Exhibit B: One day he overheard a good friend of ours telling me that she had to return a dress. She said, "It fit. It just didn't fit alllll of me" (a.k.a. The Girls were too big for the dress). Kyle, overhearing, pipes in and with all sincerity and curiosity says to her, "So what are you? Like a C?". Awkward...
Exhibit C: Some background to this one---I had told Kyle about a friend's recent heartache. About a month later, we all met up at a small get together. While there, he approaches this friend (we'll call her Cookie*) during a conversation with another friend. He later reported that they looked like they were discussing matters of the heart so he, again, pipes in with this comment, "Are you guys talking about how Cookie is just a rebound?" Throw me under the bus, why don't ya???
(p.s. I NEVER used the term rebound!)
Exhibit D: We are weirdly obsessed with our dog. Hey, who wouldn't be? But I have learned to keep some of our quirks under wraps. Kyle....has not. For instance, the other day Kyle was at lunch with his buddy, Jeff. Jeff was stressed out over some strange seizure episodes his dog has had. Along with these episodes came emergency vet visits, prescription meds, and some heartache over the high cost of these episodes. Instead of responding with some, "It's okay. You're doing the best you can." words of encouragement, his friend heard this snooty comment: "That's exactly why I pay 15 bucks a month for pet insurance."
Exhibit E, and my favorite: Back in college, Kyle and I made our way out to Texas A&M's big concert/trash bash "Chili Fest". Under the influence, Kyle convinced his friend to push him around in a shopping cart. He was pushed through the crowd giving out high-fives and telling really lame jokes (sorry, Kyle. But you know that's true). Noticing I was horrified/mortified/embarrassed, he called out through the crowd, in his exaggerated Texas accent, "Graceann! People LOVE me!"
And honestly, they do.
